A $5 million poker flip is about to happen on PokerStars.
That’s the total amount of money up for grabs, and the prize is being offered by PokerStars, the world’s largest poker tournament series.
It’s not just the big names who are looking to cash in.
A number of lesser-known players are also in the mix.
They’re all vying to take home $5,000,000 or more.
The winner of the $5m jackpot will be announced on the PokerStars website this week.
“This is not a tournament, and I do not intend to be the next big star,” said poker pro Brian Chilvers, who has been winning in the $500,000 to $1 million range for years.
“I’m just trying to keep it low profile and just play as many games as possible.”
The stakes aren’t as high as the $1.5 million jackpot, but there are still some big names vying for the cash prize.
PokerStars will offer $5M, $1M, and $500k prizes, depending on how well the games play out.
Some of the other $1,000m-plus players in the race are playing in their first tournaments.
For $5K, you can buy a pair of poker shoes, a poker hat, or a $5k poker set for $50.
It’s a huge payday for any player looking to make a killing at the poker table.
“There are a lot of people who are playing a lot,” said PokerStars poker pro Chris Hahn.
“People are willing to give you a good price for your money, but it’s also about the quality of the game.
If you’re not good enough to be a great player, it doesn’t matter how good you are as long as you’re good enough.”
In a recent PokerStars tournament, Chris Hyneman won $2.5M with $400K in the bank, followed by Chris Gagnon with $1m and $700k.
“If you can get the best of the best, I think that’s really good money,” said Gagnan.
The PokerStars jackpot is the largest ever for a single tournament, but not necessarily the biggest.
In 2009, the $2 million poker prize was won by Robert Downey Jr. in a tournament hosted by Pokerstars, but the jackpot for the tournament that year was $3.3 million.
“The jackpot has gone up a lot over the years and it’s probably because the players are playing more games,” said Brian Clements, a retired accountant who’s now the owner of Clements Entertainment in Las Vegas.
“Now it’s getting close to $5.5 Million.”
Clements says he believes the jackpots are going to stay at $5-$10 million, depending upon the games played, which is a lot less than the jacklot of $1 to $2 billion that was recently awarded.
He expects the jacktickets to stay around $1 billion for the next few years.
The biggest poker tournament in the world is being played by Poker Stars, which offers an average prize of $25,000 per round.
The poker prize is split equally between players who are either $1 or $5 to $25.
The jackpot depends on how many players play.
The prize pool for this year’s tournament is $500 million, and PokerStars says it will increase to $600 million.
The top players in poker can expect to earn $3 million, but a lot depends on their results.
